The Money-Saving Cure for Drafty Windows

When I was a kid we lived in this drafty little house with single-pane windows that did nothing to prevent cold air in the winter and blasts of heat in the summer.  We could not afford storm windows, so when the weather got cooler, my dad would head outside with a roll of opaque plastic and start cutting it into huge rectangles.  Then he would take his staple gun and Ka-CHUNK, Ka-CHUNK, Ka-CHUNK a whole bunch of staples around the plastic on each window in a feeble … [Read more...]

The Garage Door Dilemma

When we bought our house, the upper garage had a HUGE and janky double garage door.   This "double" garage door was seriously like 20 feet wide, and it was constantly breaking down.  I paid a local door company many hundreds of dollars to come out on several occasions and patch this behemoth up, but it was on it's last legs.  Notice I put "double" in quotes because there is no way two SUVs are fitting inside this garage side-by-side.  It has always been … [Read more...]

You’re Invited to The Comparison Trap Bible Study

One day last year I was sitting by my neighbor's pool chatting with some friends when the subject of jealousy came up. I admitted that the older I get, the more I feel jealous of other women. It's strange, because I used to rarely feel jealous about other people's lives. But these days it seems to creep in when I least expect it. After all, I have all of my friends sitting right here in my pocket, just waiting on me to open Facebook and see their perfect lives with their perfect … [Read more...]

Design Ideas from the 2017 Birmingham Parade of Homes

It's Parade of Homes season once again, so all you interior decorating lovers out there get your cameras ready for a huge snap-fest around town. I love going out to all the decorated Parade homes to see the latest trends from some of Birmingham's best designers.  Earlier this week I got a behind-the-scenes sneak peek into the 2017 Ideal Home from the nice ladies over at Set to Sell Staging. The house is located at 997 Willow Branch Trail in Chelsea and was built by Scotch … [Read more...]

Ain’t Wastin’ Time No More

You guys. It's been over a month since I put my fingers on this keyboard and typed out a blog post. A MONTH. Why are you still here? Wait... IS anyone still here? I'm sure I'm talking to myself in a big empty room at this point.  If you're old and country-fried like me then you know that the title of this blog post is also the title of a song written by a little band called The Allman Brothers. Except it was actually written by Gregg Allman after the other brother, Duane, died in a … [Read more...]

Like a Room without a Roof {Spring Home Tour}

Welcome to the middle of March! Can y'all even believe we are already 3 months into 2017?  The flowers are blooming, clocks have sprung forward and there's like three feet of snow on the ground in New England right now.  Here in Alabama, though, all signs point to SPRING up in hurrr, which is just fine by me. My bones need some sunshine and warmth again. Today I'm joining a few of my most talented blog friends along with our co-hosts Homegoods and Country … [Read more...]

Perhaps Today {a free printable}

For as long as I can remember, my Grandma had a little plaque in the window above her kitchen sink that said "Perhaps today." My grandparents lived in Kentucky and I grew up in Alabama, so our visits were limited to once, maybe twice a year if we were really ambitious. She was a plump and pretty little lady whose favorite colors were purple and dusty rose, which were woven throughout both her home decor and her wardrobe with great frequency. My grandfather spent his life as a coal … [Read more...]

Attic Renovation Before and After- The Full Room Tour

The attic is finally complete, so I wanted to gather up all my Before and After photos in one place to show just how far we have come in this room.  Here is the room before-- nothing much to see here except potential... And here is the finished attic turned office!  The transformation is really hard to believe unless you see all the progress pictures. I will link all those up at the bottom of this post so you can get all the details in one spot.  … [Read more...]

Anatomy of the Attic Cubbies {aka Storage Galore!}

When I decided to finish out the attic as an office and a playroom, I knew I didn't want to waste any of the precious floor space with excess furniture. Garrett's playroom at the old house had tons of little furniture pieces scattered here and there, and after a while it all just seemed to contribute to the clutteriness of the room. Since this room was going to be my new home office, I knew I had to figure out a way to tame the clutter all over the floor for my sanity's … [Read more...]
