So Close to Amazing

I come by it honestly. My artistic abilities didn't just materialize out of thin air. Both of my parents are artsy and/or craftsy. When my dad was in high school he painted an entire backdrop for a school talent show that made the audience literally gasp when they saw it. It was painted to look like a funeral parlor with a steep staircase and a creepy owl in a tree outside the window. He also starred in the play, so I guess you could say he was theatrical as well as artistic. (and … [Read more...]

39 Questions with me (and Baby Caroline)

I don’t think I’ve ever cracked open an issue of Vogue magazine, but when Brooke from Be Fed Again asked me to create a video of myself based on Vogue’s 73 questions with celebrities, I couldn’t resist. If you’ve read my blog for any length of time you’ll know that I am soooooo not a Vogue-y kind of girl, so instead I threw on my baseball cap, strapped my kid to my chest and set to work making the country girl version. Here are ten things you need to know about my questions before you watch … [Read more...]

New Favorite: Ten Things I Have Loved In 2014

It’s been a while since I posted a New Favorites list, so today I’m teaming up with my blog buddies to bring you guys a list of SOME of my favorite things.  I say “some”, because I have an EPIC GIVEAWAY in the planning stages that will feature even MORE of my favorite things (and they are like, WAY,way, wayyyy big ticket kinds of things that will be up for grabs).  But, you will have to wait until December 1st to see all of those kinds of favorite things.  That’s the day I’ll start handing them … [Read more...]

Creatively Christmas Book and Revealing My Secrets

I’ve got a secret that I’ve never shared here on my blog before.  It’s one you probably won’t expect coming from me. Ready? Here it is…. I celebrated my first Christmas just eleven years ago when I was dating my husband. I never had a Christmas as a child.  I have exactly zero warm and fuzzy memories of cookies by the fire, or the anticipation of Santa Claus on Christmas Eve, or big holiday parties spent ripping open gifts and getting in fights with my family. I never had a tree or garland or … [Read more...]

Tour of the DIY Blogsphere

Last week, I was featured by Rhoda of Southern Hospitality in a big hop around the blogosphere!  This week, I'm paying it forward and introducing two bloggers to y'all.  But first, I've been asked to answer these questions, so here we go. What am I working on? Let's see... As far as DIY projects go? I got nothin.  I haven't been doing much of anything at all with home projects lately, even though I have a to-do list that is longer than my left leg (which is about 1/2 shorter than my right leg, … [Read more...]

Ideas for a Fun Girl’s Trip to Nashville

Last weekend a group of my friends and I got together in Nashville for a weekend getaway with our friends at Forest Home Media.  Dana and Nancy are super well connected Nashville PR ladies who also happen to be total BFF material.  Seriously, I love these two women.  I first met them at the HGTV Smart Home in April, and then again when they came to Birmingham to tour the offices at Southern Living.  We kicked off the weekend by meeting up for lunch at Pinewood Social, a unique restaurant with a … [Read more...]

The Greatest Haven Photos That were Never made

I’m home from Haven 2014, without very much to show for it except the memories and a hangover.  I never even pulled out my big camera, so I have VERY few actual photos that turned out from the weekend.  All of my iphone selfies taken at the ballroom parties look all dark and downright embarrassing.  Plus, I totally forgot to actually take ANY photos AT ALL with most of my bloggy BFFs (both old and new).  So, instead of showing you the grainy assortment of pitiful photos that I actually have on … [Read more...]

Touring the Southern Living Offices and Test Kitchen

Now let me just say that I was born and raised in and around Birmingham, but this was the very first time I’ve ever stepped foot inside the hallowed ground that is Southern Progress.  Imagine having the Willy Wonka Chocolate factory sitting in your back yard your entire life, and finally getting a golden ticket to step inside.  That is exactly what this day felt like for me. Last week, my golden ticket arrived.  I was invited to go take a tour of the Southern Living headquarters and top secret … [Read more...]

Snowpocalypse 2014, part Two

Sorry to leave you hanging on the edge of your seats!  I was interrupted by a little thing this weekend called a certain 6 year old’s birthday party. If you missed my first post about the scariest drive I’ve ever made in my life, be sure to read Part One of this story here. In my cliffhanger post, I had just strapped three five year old boys into my car and was heading back out onto the icy streets with this extremely precious cargo in the back of my SUV. As a mother I cannot imagine trusting … [Read more...]

New Favorite: Custom Cookies by Salsa Sweets

I had the most amazing 35th birthday with my girlfriends in a gorgeous house in Watercolor, Florida last month.  We went to the beach and ate great food and hit up all of my favorite haunts along the Gulf Coast from Red Bar to The Back Porch.  It was a perfect weekend.  Besides the amazing scenery, girl time and decorporn that I got to experience all weekend, one of the highlights of the trip were these custom made cookies that my friend Steph brought to the party. The cookies were designed by … [Read more...]
