Holdin’ hands and Pitchin’ Woo

To my Garrett, on your fifth birthday, My sweet boy, today you turn five years old.  I feel like your fourth birthday party was just a minute ago.  This year has flown by and I'm so not ready for all of the things that lie ahead for you in the next year, like starting Kindergarten and losing your first tooth.  I am not ready for you to shed your sweet 4 year old Garrettisms, like how you call a sneeze a "bless you."  I'm going to miss you calling the remote a "gamote", or asking me to "cwug" … [Read more...]

The Last First Day of Preschool

Garrett's first day of preschool was today, but this day was different. This was his last first day of school at the preschool where he has attended since he was six months old. This is our last year there before the big public school K-word begins next year. Dropoff was a little bit touchy, but he held it together pretty well. All the other kids were totally fine at drop-off. Just kiss and go. But not my Garrett. Somewhere along the way I've created a mama's boy who doesn't like to be … [Read more...]

Garrett’s Blast Off: A Rocket Ship Themed Birthday Party

Garrett turned four years old on February 1st. We celebrated with rocket ship themed party on Super Bowl Sunday, the 5th. I'm SO excited to show y'all all the details of this fun party theme. We had about 12 kids plus their parents and other family here at our house that day. I never got a complete headcount but there were a whole lot of folks here! February birthday parties are a little bit challenging because they have to be held indoors. There are never any guarantees about the weather … [Read more...]

Growing pains

When Garrett was born I wrote monthly updates of his life, milestones, and growth. I really tried to hit the highlights of what he was doing each month. My blog was his baby book. I'm so thankful to have all those moments written down now because my blog is also serving as my memory for a lot of those earlier days. I just don't remember some parts of the newborn stage. I'm astonished by the holes in my memory over the past few years. Lack of sleep will do that to a person. Recently I have … [Read more...]

Big Boy Bed, take two.

Garrett's Great North Woods nursery theme is still going strong after three years! Since we moved into the new house his space has grown, so the decor keeps growing, too. I'm really happy I chose this rustic theme since we had so much vintage decor at the old lake cabin, as well. After we sold the cabin all the decor items got packed up and stored in the basement. Finally I sorted through it all and picked out a few new items to incorporate into Garrett's bedroom. Here are a few of the most … [Read more...]

Monkeying around for Garrett’s third birthday party

Yesterday was Garrett's monkey themed third birthday party at Pump It Up, the local bouncy house place. WHEW, whatta party this was! I was so worried we wouldn't have enough food or goodie bags but things actually came out just right, so yay to that. I started the day by chasing down a box that contained a bunch of hand made party decorations from my friend Allison. I had gotten a sneak peak at these decorations over on Allison's blog, so I was absolutely STOKED for them to arrive for the … [Read more...]

On Turning Three

Dear Garrett,Today you turned three years old. For some reason three seems much older than two. Being three means you are no longer a baby, even though you'll always be my baby. Three means you helped me decorate your birthday cupcakes. Note: these are not the ones we decorated. Ours were much messier than these. :) You get so excited over cupcakes. They rock your world.Cupcakes and snow top the list of the most exciting things a three year old can experience.Being three means you opened … [Read more...]

The Best of Intentions

His 2nd birthday party was the last real update on file. blink. He's going to have 31 months under his belt in a week. blinkblink. How the Béla Fleck does that happen, yall?I was … [Read more...]

Choo Choo Garrett’s TWO!!

Garrett turned two years old on February 1st. I know I'm beginning to sound like a broken record, but I CANNOT BELIEVE HOW FAST HE'S GROWING UP. Ok, now that we got that wailing and gnashing of teeth out of the way.... here are the party pics. Just two weeks late! Not bad, right? We had his party inside of an old Amtrack train at the Heart of Dixie Railroad Museum.
