Whatcha gonna do with all that junk

In case y’all haven’t noticed.  I love junk.  Any kind of rusty old junk. I’m on it.  And chippy, peeling doors.  And vintage anything.  So, when I combine all of those elements together with some beautiful container gardens it kinda makes my head want to explode with joy.   I might as well get it over with and change my name to Tow-Mater, because I am in LOVE with these rusty aqua sideboards from an old Ford truck (or Chevy? What the heck are these things… I have no idea.)  I spotted them at … [Read more...]

Adventures in Craigslisting

Here’s a confession. My husband has a bit of a Craigslist addiction.   I never know, from one day to the next, what new and unusual item I will find sitting in my basement when I walk downstairs.  From vintage Coke machines to rusty old signs that say “Eat Steak”, it’s a guessing game what all treasures I might find down there.  One time it was a Ms. Pacman arcade, another time a jukebox.  Before the basement remodel was completed he bought movie theater seating from the Alabama Theatre … [Read more...]

Pottery Barn inspired ladder lantern hanger

Last weekend J and I hit up Antiques in the Garden at one of my favorite nurseries, Petals from the Past.   While we were there I stumbled upon an old worn out ladder with round rungs. I've been looking for a ladder with round rungs ever since I spotted the ones in Pottery barn hanging over the tables and used as lantern hangers. How freaking awesome is this?? Image via Pottery Barn Yes please. So, I asked for the booth owner to give me a good deal on all three items, and he agreed! I love … [Read more...]

Cloudy with a chance of muriatic acid.

When we bought this house I had Clark Griswold-esque visions of our family frolicking in our new pool while singing Mele Kalikimaka and sipping fruity drinks. Four short weeks into pool ownership and those visions disappeared into a fog so thick you could cut it with a knife. And the summer of my discontent began. We were battling algae and cloudiness so dense we could barely see our feet in the shallow end. See our Polaris robot down there in the deep end? No? Neither could I. The … [Read more...]
