HOW TO GET RID OF THAT STINKY DOG SMELL

I hate to admit this, but our dogs are stinky. Their crates are stinky. Their bedding is stinky. Their breath? Oh, don’t even get me started. Gus and Woodrow, our two 100 pounder Labrador Retrievers, have lived with us their entire lives.  They have it made in the shade, quite literally.  They spend most of their days sleeping side-by-side, lounging pool-side on piles of cushion-y dog beds and being hand-fed snacks by a certain six year old. They are low-maintenance … [Read more...]

Happy Birthday Gus and Wood!

Gus and Woodrow turned five years old today! Five years ago they were sweet little puppies who slept all day and smelled like sunshine. These days they are old 96'ers who sleep all day and smell like goats slathered in swamp water. But I love them just the same. Even though they need to take more baths. Happy birthday to my old trade day dogs. … [Read more...]

Gus and Woodrow’s Great escape

Last month Gus and Woodrow decided to make the great escape from the invisible fence. We had the invisible fence installed for them at the new house so they could have the freedom to roam out in the woods without us having a big wooden fence blocking our view and our circular driveway. We have been in the new house now for what? Like five, six months? The dogs were well trained with the invisible fence. They went through a few intensive weeks of training where we kept them crated and on … [Read more...]

Princess Augusta

Since the temps have been dipping down to the witch's-tit-in-a-brass-bra-doing-push-ups-in-the-snow range this week, we've been crating the dogs inside at night. During my Back the Truck Up day I found an old Disney Princess beach towel so I tossed it into Gus's crate. He has always been our pretty pretty Princess. Now he has the bedding to match his diva attitude. … [Read more...]

Not so itsy bitsy spider

This painted lady has been hanging out on my back porch for a few weeks. I have a bouganvilla vine that forms the perfect spot to perch and wait for dinner. According to Wikipedia, she is an Argiope aurantia is commonly known as the Black and Yellow Garden Spider, Writing Spider, Banana Spider or Corn Spider. Totally harmless. That is unless you are a male Argiope aurantia. Some people's first instinct would be to freak out, or run, or grab the can of raid and spray her to kingdom come. … [Read more...]

Day on the deck

We bought G a cheap kiddie pool at Walmart yesterday and filled it with play sand. He loved it, but I never really doubted that he wouldn't. That kid LOVES to be outdoors more than anything else. Add some dirt and a dump truck and he was in heaven. It's a good stand in until I can find him a Sand and Water Table on sale somewhere. He played in the sand for a long time this afternoon while G and I rested after spreading 80 bags of mulch in the natural areas of the backyard. Yes, eighty. I'm … [Read more...]
