Turns out it’s an ear infection. In BOTH ears.
My poor baby. He’s been lethargic and pitiful all day. I took him in to the doctor first thing this morning after he refused to eat or take a bottle. That combined with the fever all day and night had me worried. Thank goodness I did! I was prepared to hear “I’m sorry, there’s nothing we can do for him. Give him Tylenol and make sure he gets plenty of fluids.” and instead I hear, “He has a raging ear infection in both ears. Here’s a prescription for antibiotics.”
So, my baby has taken his first dose of amoxycillin tonight. I had the pharmacy add some grape flavor for him. When I opened the jar tonight and smelled that pink gooey medicine, it immediately transported me back in time. That smell is unforgettable. I could picture my mom sticking that big tube with a scoop on the end in my mouth and making me swallow it all in two or three big gulps. And then she would give me a saltine cracker to get the taste out of my mouth.
Today after I gave G his medicine, I gave him a saltine cracker in his mesh feeder.
The tradition continues.
