Creating a Haven of Organization

Although I will never ever be as organized as SOME people, I am striving to find more order in my chaotic life. I will never be one of those people with a spotless house who organizes my sock drawers, but I am a Virgo after all, and I do like for things to have some semblance of order in my life. Since we moved into the new house I feel like I’ve lost total control of my stuff. You know when you move how all that random crap that gets tossed into boxes never to be seen again? I’m STILL unpacking boxes of treasures. Just today I found the box containing my favorite coaster set, two apothecary jars I’ve been searching for and my cherished Earthborn pottery bowl. For MONTHS I’ve been wondering where this box was hiding, and all along it was on top of the refrigerator in my laundry room.

Good griefous.

I can make a lot of excuses for why I can’t seem to get it together (full time job, mom of a 2 year old, Frontierville crops need harvesting) but it really just boils down to bad time management and zero energy at the end of the day. I downloaded this little e-book to try to help with my time management troubles. It has some great tips, but it doesn’t take into account for my laziness. My life has got to get more organized. I tried to help things along by hiring my maid to organize my pantry and laundry room. She did a great job, but the problem is that she moved all my stuff around, so now I can’t find anything! At least when it was jumbled up in plain site I had an idea of where to find things. Now they could be anywhere, on any shelf, inside any random basket where she decided they should reside. That might not have been the smartest move hiring an outsider to clean up my mess.

So to help motivate myself even further I started a board on pinterest called Creating a Haven of Organization. Just one glance at all these militant rows of glass jars and baskets is enough to send any Type-A personality into overdrive. I’m more of a Type-D personality with a Type L for Lazy stamina but still I can appreciate these gorgeous rooms.

Here are a few of my favorite inspiration photos:

I have to throw this one in because it’s so clean and crisp and lovely. It just makes me take a deep breath and exhale with a giant “aaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh.”

But so far, here is the reality of all that inspiration:

My spice drawer is well organized.

You gotta start somewhere, right?

Just remember Beth – just like the airbrushing of the models in Fashion mags, these are only pics. If these rooms pictured actuallydo get used at all, I wonder what the laundry room looks like on laundry day? Or what the mud room looks like when it’s time to pot plants?

Your spices look great. Makes me wanna cook something 🙂
