The BEST Place to Stay in Franklin, TN

On 9/17/17 I hit The Big 4-0. To celebrate this momentous occasion, I decided to take a girl's trip to Franklin, TN. I have always loved visiting Franklin and could not think of a better place to take my BFFs from around the country. We stayed in THE cutest cottage that was absolutely perfect for the six of us. If you've been searching for the best place in the Southeast to take a girls' trip, Franklin is at the tippy top of my list, and Scarlett Scales cottage is definitely part of the … [Read more...]

A Guide to Colonial Williamsburg with Kids Part 1

The older I get, the more of a history geek I become. I was always kind of a history lover, but not to the extent that I am now. Give me a re-enactment of a historical village any day over a modern day city. My love of Outlander might have something to do with it, but mainly it's just in my blood. Historical places fascinate me, especially anything to do with the 18th and 19th century. For this reason, Colonial Williamsburg has been on my bucket list to visit for many years, and FINALLY we … [Read more...]

Who else is planning a summer road trip with kids?  Summer is nearly over, which means you better hit the road quick if you want to avoid those unexcused absences. If you want to try to kick it old school style and have a technology-free road trip then you are gonna need to get creative. Here are … [Read more...]

The Sunflower Field

I've driven down a lot of Alabama back roads in my lifetime, but up until this point, none of them were quite as memorable as the one I drove down yesterday.  It was a perfect day for a mini-road trip.  The sky was a brilliant blue.  The clouds were puffy and white. We tossed our sunscreen and snacks in the car and headed off with the kids on a summertime adventure. We left our house around mid-morning and trusted Siri to get us to our destination. … [Read more...]

That month we Celebrated our 10th Anniversary Pt. 2

Even though we had celebrated our anniversary in the woods of Wisconsin earlier in October, that didn’t stop us from planning another getaway to Franklin,Tennessee for anniversary getaway part deux.  This trip was spent at The Granary at Peacock Hill, which was a converted grain mill turned into a cute little cottage on a farm in the middle of nowhere, Tennessee.  Actually when you get to the middle of nowhere, you turn left and go just a little bit further before you get there.  Oh and here's a … [Read more...]

That month we Celebrated our 10th Anniversary Pt. 1

It’s gonna be really hard for me to nail down my favorite events of the past month, but I’ll give it my best shot in 5,000 photos or less.  We have been celebrating our tenth anniversary pretty much all month long, beginning with a trip up to Chicago in early October and ending with a trip up to Franklin, Tennessee this past weekend where we had views like this… … and this… But let me start at the beginning, since I’m a chronological kind of person.  It all began when I was invited … [Read more...]
