Top 25 Gifts for Gamers

My son Garrett is 9 years old. Like most tweenagers these days, he is rarely seen without an iPad in one hand and a game console in the other. Just kidding. Kinda. But as he gets older he is getting harder to buy for because toys just don't interest him any more. He loves playing Roblox on his iPad with his buddies and every once in a while I'll catch him playing with his Grossery Game figures.  But mostly it's all electronic, all the time. So. I decided to compile a list of ideas for … [Read more...]

Drool-worthy Thanksgiving Desserts

I'm hosting Thanksgiving at my house this year. It's the first time I've ever owned a six-seater table, so I'm pretty excited to sit some folks around it and stuff them full of scrumptious Thanksgiving food. My favorite thing to make for turkey day is not the turkey (although I have been known to smoke one in my day...) but the DESSERTS. Here are ten dessert recipes I've been eyeing to make it a very sweet Thanksgiving, indeed. Thanksgiving Turkey Oreo Balls Cranberry Pecan … [Read more...]

Things to do in Alabama: Winter Bucket List

Alabama is known for many things: Gulf coast beaches, winning football teams, rolling fields of cotton, and some of the best bass fishing in the whole country.  I am born and raised in the great state of Alabama, and I've spent almost 40 years driving the backroads looking for the best things to do. These days I try to find things that are fun for my kids, too.  On this first day of winter, it's time to get out there and appreciate our state’s amazing scenery and take … [Read more...]

15 Tempting Thanksgiving Desserts

Ok guys. Less than one week until Thanksgiving. Time to start scanning Pinterest like a madwoman to figure out what we are taking to the potluck. Have you made your game plan yet?  In the past few years, my husband has developed a severe peanut/tree nut allergy, so Thanksgiving is like walking through a land-mine for him. I've been looking around on Pinterest for nut-free Thanksgiving desserts that will not cause him any issues. It's way harder than it looks because nuts and … [Read more...]

Apple Recipes to Try this Fall

Two years ago I was sitting in the middle of an apple orchard in Wisconsin, u-picking apples straight off the trees and reveling in the cool, crisp air.  I LOVED our Wisconsin vacation so much, and now every time I think of apple recipes, I'm reminded of that fun 10th anniversary vacation. I think about that vacation so very often because it was such a turning point in our lives. Do you ever have moments that you can pinpoint as THE moment when something changed in your life? These … [Read more...]

Today is the first day of fall, which means it's time for all your favorite bloggers to start strategically posing their squeaky clean Hunter boots by their back doors and pumping out the pumpkin projects like madwomen. I hate to disappoint ya, but I don't even own a pair of Hunter boots. #bloggerfail I also have not put a single pumpkin out in my house yet. Been a little busy up in here.  So, instead of showing off my fall decor, I thought I'd share some awesome fall wreaths from some of … [Read more...]

Simple School Lunches for Normal People

School is in full swing here, which means I have spent a lot of minutes staring blankly into my pantry with a puzzled look on my face, trying to figure out what I should be putting in my son's lunchbox. If I'm being honest, with everything that's been going on in our lives lately, I filled up his lunchroom credit card with cash and let him buy anything he wants from the cafeteria, which is usually a cheeseburger, Doritos and an ice cream sandwich.  :/ Not good. Finally I decided to … [Read more...]
