Some people do a monthly version of this type of blog entry, but I’m in no way dedicated enough to making a monthly commitment to telling you what I love. Plus you probably don’t really care that much, anyway. I’m not cool enough to be a trend setter. In fact, I’m way behind the times on a lot of things. I just started texting this year, for goodness sakes.
Anyway…before we head into 2009 I will take a minute to tell y’all my most favorite material possessions from the year 2008. Mainly so my grandkids can look back and read this in 50 years and laugh at all those newfangled devices I thought were impressive back near the turn of the century.
Ready for the newfangledness?
Here we go…
Amazon Kindle (creepy detached hand not included)
J received this as a gift, and I quickly claimed it as my own. He’s not too much of a reader, but luckily he’s married to one! I have read three of the four books in the Twilight Series on this thing, and I’m in the middle of The Story of Edgar Sawtelle. All great books. I love my Kindle.

Ok, so there is nothing newfangled about this at all. But it’s new to me, so that counts for something.
I get sick in the winter. It never fails. One Christmas Eve was spent over a trashcan at a Doc-in-the-Box with a terrible stomach bug. One year I got the real-deal influenza. Multiple years I have coughs and sniffles and sneezes and all sorts of grodiness. But not this year! I can’t sing enough praises for this stuff. I started taking it at the beginning of November, and since that time everyone around me has gotten sick. Everyone, except for me. Which is a damn miracle, because I am always the first one to get sick. I give all the credit to my Rezist plus. It’s a wonder drug!

3 button cable knit sweater from Lane Bryant
I bought this sweater in the slate gray color, and I love, love, love it. It is so cozy around my neck, and it looks great with layers under it. I should take a picture of myself in mine, but I’ll just let this lovely semi-decapitated plus size model do all the work for me. __________________________________________________________________________________
Croc ballet flat
I know they are not stylish. I don’t care. Mine look a tad bit different from these, but same principle. They are the most comfortable things EVER. I found them at The Buzz in Rosemary Beach, and from the moment I slipped them on, it was love at first sight. They literally conform to the shape of your foot, so it’s a custom fit, which is a godsend for my Fred Flintstone feet. I would nominate them for the greatest shoe of all time.

I love the idea of scrapbooking. My mother is the queen of scrapbooking. Seriously, guys, this is her scrapbooking room. She’s all ’bout it, ’bout it.
But I suck at it. I suck at taking the time to pull out all that material and put together a bunch of pages, then I REALLY suck at the cleanup part of it. But I love the idea of being able to scrapbook G’s life. So I let Grandma do it for me. Hehe. In an essence, I consider this blog a scrapbook without all the frilly embellishments.
But then I discovered Scrapblog, and my life was changed. Digi-scrapping is the greatest thing ever. No cleanup, no printing out your photos and cutting them all up. No rubber cement highs. It’s a good thing. I’m all ’bout it, ’bout it. _________________________________________________________________________________
Weeds
I refuse to pay for premium channels, but during my maternity leave I upped my Netflix subscription to three per mailing just for this show. Well, this show, and Deadwood. But the atrocious language on Deadwood is not something I can endorse on this family friendly blog. But somehow a show all about selling illegal substances is ok. Hmm. Maybe I need a little more Jesus in my life.

Sims Castaway for the Wii
One thing I do NOT need more of in my life is this stupid game. Talk about addictive. How I could sit and waste HOURS of time keeping a little virtual person clothed and sheltered and fed is beyond me, but I did it. While I spent countless hours with a baby attached to my boob, I had my hand attached to the Wii controller pretending to be Mark Burnett with my Survivor Sims. In the course of my life, I have always loved storylines involving castaways. Swiss Family Robinson, Gilligan’s Island, Survivor, The Blue Lagoon, LOST, all things Jimmy Buffett and Margaritaville, even the movie Castaway. This game sucked me in so hard, and I was so thankful when J finally googled some cheats so I could progress faster and break the spell it held on me. I loved creating my own little Sims Island. I played it so much I would hear that stupid Sims gibberish music from the radio playing over and over in my head at night when I got up to tend to Garrett. It was enough to make me insane, but still I played that game. Finally I got rescued (well, actually I got rescued like 5 times but still I kept playing). I don’t know what prompted me to finally put it down and walk away. Maybe it had something to do with the fact that J unhooked the Wii and I am too lazy to put it back together. __________________________________________________________________________________
And finally, my most loved possession in 2008:
Oh, the countless hours I spent nursing Garrett by the glow of the iPhone. It was a complete savior for me when I thought I would go insane in the first six weeks of his life when he awoke screaming every hour or so. I would get up with him and nurse him for 45 minutes or sometimes over an hour, praying he was getting at least an ounce or so of milk, all while surfing kellymom.com for ways to increase my milk supply. I became a champ at typing emails with one thumb while cradling his newborn head with my other hand. Now I’m so addicted to it that I check my email at traffic lights and railroad crossings. It’s a lifechanger.

So there you go.
What’s on your list of All Things Loved in ’08? I’d love to hear about ’em!
Kent says
I have that same sweater in the light gray and I love it too! I wear a white button up shirt underneath and only button the bottom button of the sweater…love it!
Carla says
Great list! Don’t feel bad, I’m just getting into the whole texting thing as well! Love the Crocs!
G+D says
Great ’08 loves, Beth! I’ve been recommending that Rezist Plus to friends after hearing how well it’s worked for you! And while I’ve never been a fan of Crocs–those ballet flats are super cute! I may have to check them out.
