Keeping up with the Gaineses

If the 2016 Birmingham Parade of Homes is any indication, everyone wants to keep up with the Gaineses.

Birmigham Parade of Homes 2016-5

Don’t get me wrong, I adore the Fixer Upper couple as much as the next person, but Joanna Gaines has taken the design world by storm and ship-lapped her way into pretty much every single Parade Home I toured so far this year.   There was shiplap EVERYWHERE!  And I LOVE IT.

There were also some more new and surprising trends that are starting to take hold, like aged brass fixtures and faucets.  Maybe if I wait long enough my bright brass doorknobs will come back in style.

Birmigham Parade of Homes 2016-7

For the past two years I’ve worked with B-Metro Magazine to cover the Birmingham Parade of Homes, and this weekend the Parade rolls back into town with all the latest design trends in tow.

Speak Your Mind

  1. Thanks for the pics, now I don’t have to go see the homes tomorrow myself and start wishing to sell our house and move again! lol I love the shiplap but I think it will end up being so overdone. I don’t want my house to look like everyone else’s. That can be hard as we try to update our 1993 home we moved into 3 years ago.

  2. Angela VanAlphen says:

    Hi Beth,
I work for American Printing Co. and we also own B-Metro. I just wanted to say that I love your blog. And I especially like that you are in the same town as me. And to find out you do work with B-Metro is awesome. Love your decor style and your sweet personality. I look forward to reading more about you and the parade of homes.

  3. Any idea what the stone tile is around the fireplace?

  4. What color white would you use on the Shiplap for the Fireplace? I am in the middle of a reno and need to pic my paint color for the shiplap on the fireplace. Also, do you think I need to match the window trim color to the shiplap? thx!

    • I used SW Westhighland White on the shiplap in my house and it looks great. 🙂 It’s a nice warm white:

And as long as the window trim is in a similar family to the shiplap color I think you’ll be fine without matching it up exactly.

  5. Hi Beth,

I love how the fireplace is so classy but has a touch of an organic feel with the mantel. What did you use for the wood shelf?

  6. Do you happen to have the source for the art above the fireplace? It’s exactly what I am looking for!
